1.4 Right to Equality in Islam

IsEco

The Holy Qur'an adumbrated its own ideal of Human equality in the following verse:

"O mankind! Lo! we have created you male and female and have you into nations and tribes So that you may know one another. Lo! the noblest of you in the sight of Allah is he who is the best in conduct".

Thus the only superiority enjoyed by a human being over other human beings is determined by his righteous conduct, not by his social or economic status. The same principle was reportedly bu the Prophet (peace be upon him) of Islam in his address to the Muslim on the occasion of his farewell pilgrimage when he said:
"O! people, your God is one, your father is one. No Arab has superiority over a non-Arab as no non-Arab has man enjoy superiority over a man of brown color, except by piety". To make human equality effective in day to day life, Islam took the vital step of ensuring equality of men before the law and providing them with basic economic needs. Without these two prerequisites, human equality will remain a mere ideal untranslatable into action. The most primary right of a man is the rights were ensured by the Prophet of Islam in his address to the people on the occasion of his farewell pilgrimage when he said:

"Your blood and your property are sacrosanct until you meet your Lord, as this day and this month are holy...know that every Muslim is a Muslim's brother, and that the Muslim are brethren. It is only lawful to take from  brother what he gives you willingly".
